Heritage rice and the millet tin
Rajamudi, Gandhasale, ragi, and the other grains the shop sells by the kilogram.
The rice shelf is the old Karnataka table: Rajamudi with its reddish bran, fragrant Gandhasale, fine HMT, and the small-grained sanna rices from Mysuru. They are sold loose, by the kilogram.
Beside them are the millets — navane, saame, ragi, jowar, sajje — and the flours and rava milled from the same grains. Ragi flour and jowar flour are everyday goods here, not a special diet.
Pulses and dal sit in the same room: toor, moong, urad, horse gram, and chana, whole or split. If a recipe starts with a soak, it is already in the shop.
